Most social media playbooks assume the same stack: TikTok for reach, Facebook for ads, email for retention. Bring that to Uzbekistan and half of it falls flat. Here people read the news in Telegram, shop through Instagram, ask “narxi qancha?” (“how much?”) in the comments and expect to order through a bot, not a checkout page.

Then there’s language. Uzbek or Russian? Latin or Cyrillic script? Get it wrong and you’ll spend six months making good content for people who don’t read it.

Below: a platform map with the real role of each network, how to choose a language, how people here actually buy, what a specialist and ads cost, and a plan for your first 90 days. Prices are rough Tashkent benchmarks as of fall 2026, not a rate card; dollar figures are rounded at about 12,500 sum to the dollar.

The platform map: where customers actually are

If you’ve worked in Brazil or India, think of Telegram as the local WhatsApp with a news feed bolted on: channels, community chats and ordering bots all live there.

PlatformRole in UzbekistanBest forWatch out for
TelegramThe main one: news, channels, chats, ordering botsAlmost everyoneNo recommendation feed — growth comes only from mentions and ads
InstagramStorefront and catalog, sales via DMsFood, beauty, fashion, services, interiorsWithout Reels, reach mostly stays with existing followers
YouTubeReviews, tutorials, podcastsExperts, cars, tech, educationExpensive to produce, results take months
FacebookProfessional groups, 35+ audience, Meta ad accountB2B, real estate, running Instagram adsLow organic reach for Pages
LinkedInIT, export, hiringIT firms, outsourcing, B2B selling abroadAlmost useless for local consumers
TikTokAccess restricted since 2021; some users watch via VPNA secondary home for your videosRisky to build sales on

For local B2C, the starting combo is almost always the same: a Telegram channel plus Instagram. Instagram brings in new people through Reels and recommendations; Telegram keeps the ones who already bought — that’s where they go for promos, new arrivals and a quick message to a manager.

Don’t forget maps. Yandex Maps, Google Maps and 2GIS send as many customers to cafés, salons and car services as social media does. A listing with current hours, fresh photos and replies to reviews is part of your social strategy, not a someday task.

Language: Uzbek, Russian or both

There’s no universal answer, only your audience:

  • Tashkent, premium, IT, B2B. Russian is still strong, but Uzbek keeps gaining ground. The safe choice is both.
  • Mass market and the regions. Uzbek. A Russian-only salon account in Samarkand or Namangan loses most of its potential clients.
  • Latin or Cyrillic. Latin is the official script, and people under 35 mostly read it. Older people are often more comfortable with Cyrillic. If you’re selling to parents rather than their kids, test both on a few posts.

How to run two languages:

  1. Telegram. One post: main language first, a blank line, then the second. The limit is 4,096 characters for a text post and 1,024 for a photo caption, so this works for short posts. If you write long, run two channels.
  2. Instagram. About 125 characters show before “more”. Put the key message there in your main audience’s language and the translation below. Two languages in the first line read like noise.
  3. Hashtags and search. #toshkent, #tashkent and #ташкент are three separate results pages. Write the way your customers search, not the way that’s “correct”.

How to run one brand in several languages without doubling the work is covered in our guide to multilingual social media.

How people buy here

The customer journey here is short and chatty: someone sees a Reel, opens your profile and messages you right away. What matters:

  • Price in the post. “Narxi direktda” (“price in DMs”) filters out everyone too shy to ask — which is most people. A visible price, or at least “from 250,000 sum” (about $20), brings more inquiries, not fewer.
  • A bot or a manager one tap away. Fast-food chains have taken orders through Telegram bots for years, so customers are used to it. A small business just needs a link to the manager’s account in the channel description and the Instagram bio.
  • A +998 phone number in plain sight. Plenty of people still prefer to call, especially 35+ customers and those outside Tashkent.
  • Payment without a website. A Click or Payme payment link right in the chat, cash on delivery, BTS courier for the regions. If your Stories say “delivery across Uzbekistan”, your first reply should state the cost and how many days it takes.
  • Reply speed. Messages peak in the evening, after work. Answer a 9 p.m. question the next morning and the customer has already bought from the account next door.

What it costs: specialist, channel ads, targeting

Tashkent benchmarks (full breakdown in what SMM really costs):

OptionPer monthUsually includes
Junior freelancer1.5–3M sum (~$120–240)Copy, template graphics, posting on one platform
Experienced freelancer3–7M sum (~$240–560)Strategy, content plan, Reels from your footage, report
Small agency5–12M sum (~$400–960)A team, 1–2 platforms, ad budget on top
In-house specialist5–12M sum + taxesEverything, including daily behind-the-scenes shooting

Paid posts in Telegram channels are the main paid channel. Compare channels by cost per thousand views (CPM), not by subscribers. Example: a 30,000-subscriber channel averaging 7,500 views per post asks 1.2M sum — that’s 160,000 sum ($13) per thousand views. A 12,000-subscriber channel with 4,000 views asking 500,000 sum is the better deal at 125,000 sum ($10) per thousand. Verify views in TGStat or Telemetr, not admin screenshots.

Instagram ads run through Meta’s ad account, with one local catch: you need a Visa or Mastercard. The ad account doesn’t accept Uzcard or Humo, so get an international card from your bank before launch day.

Creators. Micro-influencers in your district or niche often agree to barter or a small flat fee. Ask for last week’s Stories stats and look at views, not follower count.

Your first 90 days

Days 1–14: set up the storefront.

  1. Pick two platforms. B2C: Telegram and Instagram. IT and export: Telegram and LinkedIn.
  2. Put your niche and district in the Instagram Name field: “Nails | Yunusabad”. That field is searchable.
  3. In the bio and channel description: prices or a range, address with a map link, phone, a link to the manager or bot, opening hours.
  4. Pick a language using the rules above and stick with it.

Days 15–45: get consistent.

  • Instagram: 3 posts a week, at least one of them a Reel, Stories every working day.
  • Telegram: 4–5 posts a week. Content pillars: prices and new arrivals, “how we make it”, answers to customer questions, reviews.
  • Local calendar: Navruz on March 21, September 1, New Year, wedding season. Ramadan and the two Hayit holidays move about 11 days earlier every year — check dates a month ahead, not the day before.

Days 46–90: first ad money.

  • 3–5 small channels at the same price instead of one big one, to find the ones that actually send customers. Step-by-step channel buying is in our guide to growing a Telegram channel.
  • 2–3 micro-influencers on barter.
  • A separate promo code or link for each source, plus “How did you hear about us?” in your bot or at checkout. Without it, a month later you won’t know what worked.

When this plan won’t work

  • Your customers are abroad. IT outsourcing and exporters need LinkedIn, English and a different playbook. This one is for selling inside the country.
  • You’re betting everything on TikTok. While access is restricted, it’s a shop window with no guarantees: reach today, gone tomorrow.
  • Nobody answers messages. Channel ads and Reels drive messages into the evening peak. If DMs sit unanswered until morning, your ad budget pays for a competitor’s sales.
  • Regulated niches. Medicine, finance, alcohol and tobacco run into limits in both local advertising law and Meta’s policies. Start with a lawyer, not a paid post.
  • You’re copying another market’s playbook. Email-first funnels, Facebook Page strategies or Russian tactics built on VK and Dzen barely move the needle here: different audience, different platforms, different budgets.
